What a beautiful picture we see in Acts 10. Here we see the beginning of Peter’s growth in multiethnic ministry.
Even though called to reach all everyone by Jesus in the Great Commission, Peter struggled with this.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matt 28:19 NIV
Yet in Acts 10, God begins to expand Peter’s view of salvation. After the vision where Peter was told not to call unclean that what God makes clean…
“The voice spoke to him a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’” Acts 10:15 NIV
Peter gets called to go to Simon’s house. And here he gets a clearer understanding of the real meaning of the vision.
“Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.” Acts 10:34-35 NIV
Peter will still struggle with this (See Galatians 2), but he is moving in the right direction.
How about us? Do we see as unclean that which God says is clean? Do we think that there are some who are beyond salvation?
May God open our eyes, as He did Peter’s, that we might see as He sees, love as He loves, and reach out to all with the Good News that Jesus offers (that salvation is available to everyone who believes and follows Him). In Jesus’ name…
