I wonder how many times we get caught up in looking at other people’s work (and ministries) and take time away from what God created us for and is calling us to do?
As we read through the Gospel of John in our daily Bible readings (our church is going through the Bible in a year once again), we see Peter question John’s calling to see if it will be like his. This stands out because Jesus just made it clear that the end would be hard for people.
Jesus made it clear that Peter was to worry about himself.
“Jesus said to him, ‘If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!’” Joh 21:22 NASB
Every one of us has a different call and different work to do.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Eph 2:10 NASB
God has work for each and every one of us to do. Each will have its benefit to the kingdom. Not only that, but you don’t know the challenges that the other person is going through. You also may not have the gifting to succeed at the task, and you may not properly see the challenges they are facing. As the saying goes, “The grass isn’t always greener…”
The greater question is, “What has God called you to do? What skills has He uniquely given you to complete the task He has for you? “
Let’s focus on those. Let’s focus on what God has called us to do, and let Him handle the rest.
