There seems to be so much fear today over what is to come. There is fear over Coronavirus… there’s fear over riots… there is fear over elections… and right now I think that there is starting to be a fear over what’s next in 2020.
Caution and concern are completely logical in times such as these. We want to be diligent and do what is necessary to keep ourselves and our families safe. But we want to be careful that caution doesn’t turn into fear.
In Deuteronomy 20, the people are told that there are going to be causes for concern. They are going to face foes that they don’t think they can conquer.
But the Lord is with them. There is no reason to fear.
This makes me think of 2 Kings 6, when the servant of Elisha thought that they were surrounded. Elisha said to him,
“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 2 Kings 6:16 NIV
And when he prayed, God opened the servant’s eyes and he saw the Lord’s army. God was, and is, in control. Whatever He allows to happen, the choices He allows us to make because of our sin, we need to understand that He does not abdicate His control.
If God is for us, then what do we have to fear? Nothing!
And as the people of God move forward (in Joshua), would find victory in the Lord. Are we going to trust that we will find victory in Him too?
