A Peaceful Mind

Lord, thank You so much for giving me the opportunity to go and see Caitie this past weekend (COVID test just came back negative). It was a nice break from the world. I also thank You for the opportunity to go to Pretty Place, the chapel on a hill that allows for a beautiful view of the sunrise (with the cross in the foreground).

Picture Caitie took from my iPhone. She captured it just as someone else’s flash went off and illuminated the cross and writing on the beam above!

Although it was tough to get up that early in the morning, especially on the weekend where we lost an hour, it was well worth it. Waking up at what would have been 3:30 am only a day before for 2 hours of driving was a challenge.

But sitting there while listening to worship music — with the sun rising above the horizon — was breathtaking.

The beauty in Your creation makes it shocking that people think that all of this could come from random chance. But beyond that, it was so peaceful. Your scriptures in today’s (Mondays) reading says “You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you.” Isa. 26:3-4 CSB

As we depend on You for everything, and trust in You at all times, our hearts and minds can be at peace.

What is there to fear when You are with us? Too often we rely on ourselves, our own strength and understanding, to bring us peace. Yet that peace has to come from You if it is to last.

In Philippians chapter 4 You share that when we rejoice in You, and when we bring everything to You, trusting You to take care of our needs, You will bring us real peace (inner peace).

Lord, help me to rest in You. Help me to trust in You. And help me to rely on You. By this You offer me peace that makes no sense to a world that doesn’t know You. May this inner peace be a witness to a world that is struggling with chaos and turmoil that surrounds me. In Jesus name.
