What wonderful words we read in the beginning of John chapter one,
“But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be (or become) children of God - John 1:12.”
This is our greatest calling in life – to be a child of God! I may be a son, husband, father, pastor, and coach (beyond the other titles I might have), but none of them is as significant as being called a child of God.
And John follows this up by letting us know that this comes by believing in his name, not by anything we do, who we were born to, nationality, race, or by anything we can accomplish in and of ourselves, but by God! We simply choose to accept, and put Him first, and we are included.
This is not an exclusionary club. Everyone is eligible. We can choose not to be included, but the choice is ours.
And as a child, it is important to learn and grow. Matthew 4:4 (NIV) reminds us that
“Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
The disciples weren’t scholars, but they desired to learn from Jesus.
