A Call to Love and Be Compassionate

The calling for those of us who call ourselves followers of Jesus is to try and be like Jesus. This means that we are to love those who hate us, show compassion to those who who can’t repay, and kindness (and forgiveness) to all. We are to be like the Lord, who is like this to us! And if we don’t want to be like the Lord and follow Him, then we shouldn’t call Him our Lord.

Savior is easy, Lord is much harder…

“Although it may seem that judgment is base on doing Jesus’ commandments, it is not the actions themselves that bring about the final verdict but rather the reason one is committed to those actions. Believers of Jesus keep Jesus’ commandments because they are committed to him.”

Robert Stein, New American Commentary on Luke, p. 216

Are we committed to Him as seen in our desire to know Him better and obey Him? We need to understand that it is only by His grace and the presence of the Holy Spirit that we are able to be obedient!

Help us, Holy Spirit, to not just treat You as our Savior, but as our Lord.
