Keeping Your Head

What are we to do with the current state of affairs? Recent research shows the challenges that face Christians are getting greater as we hear about pastors and teachers moving further and further away from biblical doctrine. The changes in the church do NOT reflect a never changing God.

God is perfect…

God is perfect, so He has no need to change. We, however, are prone to wander and follow things that feel good. 2 Timothy 4 tells us that this is expected.

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” 2 Tim. 4:3-5 NIV

We need to be in the Word!

We need to be in the Word. We need to preach and teach the Word. We need to lovingly call out those who preach something different, and we need to keep our head in all situations.

Paul tells us that it will be hard. The reality is we may face persecution. But the call is to endure. It is to fight the good fight. It is to run the race before us (2 Tim 4:7-8).

Perseverance will be rewarded, but we can only persevere if we stand firm in the Truth that God has shared in His Word. This makes it all the more critical that we be in His Word all the time! Otherwise, we might end up among those who Paul cautions will turn away.

Lord, help me to stay in Your Word, and to stay true to it. Your Word is truth (John 17:17), and I want to follow it all my days. Help me when it gets hard, so that I will persevere until the end. In Jesus’ mighty name…
